Healthy ingredient substitutes are so easy when you have some kitchen confidence.
Baking is my #1 jam, but I dabble in cooking too.
It’s all part of the same oven-stove appliance miracle after all. My first career was in catering management in hotels, and then restaurants.
And my name is Brandy Pan.
…I think I was born for this.
But in life and in a pot, things take time to simmer and slow bake. It had not come to me that my love of food and ingredients were closer than they appear, and in my home and local grocery stores.
Those places make baking rituals easier and meal planning convenient.
You also save grocery money if you know what you’re spending at the store …and love research (like I do!).
Because I’m certain healthy ingredients are NOT for the wealthy, with my years of grocery food receipts as proof.
And many of the ingredients are from produce with PLU sticker nutrition labels 😊 or spices that cost pennies per recipe… and if you’re a gardener, even less!
…Me, I’m the baking type, and I’m always dreaming up new desserts. Some can be whipped up in less time than it takes to put together a healthy bowl (like a cottage cheese chocolate mousse).
But I didn’t catch on to my natural food passions when I first started this blog about healthy tip intentions, where I peppered in favorite healthy food mentions on occasion.
Which btw, healthy foods often don’t get the shout out they deserve… and food pairings in harmony is love (in my eyes). 🍴
So little did I know back then, that this passion would turn into sharing weekly food recipes (that are intentionally doable for new beginners as I was one, and easy for most). You could say the idea was half-baked in the beginning.
Then in 2021, I posted this low-sugar orange zest and low-butter scone recipe, with a packet of Sugar in the Raw as the cherry on top. 🍒 A scone to help satisfy sugar cravings, if you will. Because we know natural willpower doesn’t work. But what does work is that the less sugar you eat, the less you crave.
And being the endless sweet tooth I am, I needed this as my body reached an inflammation tipping point landing me in the emergency room, that can happen to any of us. I have since learned from my own body experiences, that it can be better than beyond manageable… it can actually be preventable through healthy food choices that the unique body likes.
And of course, this is made easier with easy delicious recipes to follow and use as guidelines for a healthier finish.
And where every little healthy food addition, subtraction and substitution choice matters in taste, texture, and flavor pairings. These become new healthy food habits that translate into happy enjoyable bites your mouth and mind are celebrating.
Then fully satisfied, you can break the chains of the ‘ol past food habits. You give certain food bondage chain holds, an old heave ho… how liberating!
…Or just bring them in on occasion on your modified enjoyment terms.
That’s a winning game changer where you’re whole and never feeling like you’re missing anything, while the body’s always keepin’ score.
…And now it’s a healthier one with healthy ingredient substitutes
I’m never feeling like I’m missing anything to eat in the easy healthy food switches (that my wallet is also happy about). You can give it a try one recipe at a time.
Some healthy ingredients are so easy to substitute, and some even make whatever you’re making or baking so much easier, and/or quicker in the prep and steps.
Like, donuts and cookies used to be my Achilles heel weakness, but they did my figure no favors (and do not help a better dress size for anyone I know).
So I substituted those sweet treats for look-alikes… like a no-make peach donut 🍩 that has entered the grocery scene, and a no-bake (no fry) donut that you can make from tempering chocolate… that btw is much easier than it sounds, and the sheen looks like it was happy oven shined. Or even an L-Theanine calming matcha donut.
And these are other affordable healthy ingredient substitutes you may want to try in your everyday and occasional bakes
