Waffle iron poached egg iron is an egg you probably didn’t think of. But you can make a pretty poached egg this way… one individual egg at a time!
Simply turn on your waffle iron to about the middle or medium setting. On my waffle iron, between 1-5 heat, that’s about a medium “3.”
Like an easy curling iron, wait the 30-45 seconds to heat up with the green light.
The waffle iron is that easy if you’re on-the-fence as to whether you need one.
Then crack your egg, and slowly low drop (different than low and slow cooking) directly on the heated waffle iron. Hear it lightly sizzle if hot enough.
And hold the top of the waffle iron top cover on the brim top of the egg so it gets heated, but so it doesn’t put weight on the yolk. That would break the egg and you could cook eggs that way too, but they won’t be poached eggs. 🍳
For a waffle iron poached egg, cook until the yolk looks translucent to your liking. Then turn off the iron and pull the entire egg off the waffle iron with a utensil. No waffle iron cleaning or scraping needed. How easy!
Poached eggs are also perfectly made foolproof on the stove with one little tweak.
…And it’s not the cheffy way I’ve seen on television from some of the chefs I admire!… it’s not add cracked egg to a bowl and pour into a heated pot of water with vinegar as the egg whites go everywhere in the pot or pan (and it’s mostly poached yolk).
It’s a little more fine detailed as I learned how to be from hotel catering.
I went from not knowing how to poach an egg at home, but always wanting to learn… and making them consistently (as my favorite kind of egg). Today it’s a practical skill I use weekly that takes minutes. 😋
And if making one waffle iron poached egg at a time, made even quicker and easier with a home waffle iron that you can make with other brunch waffle iron recipes! 🧇
You can tasty pair with brunch waffled potatoes, chicken and waffles… and even fish & waffle chips that are healthy.
Poached Egg - Waffle Iron
Ingredients
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Turn your waffle iron medium heat setting.
- Gently crack egg in the middle of the open and heated waffle iron. The egg white will spread some, but should not run off the waffle iron.
- Leave egg for a minute or so. Then when a little cooked, hold the top cover directly ontop of egg with hand to not add weight or break the egg yolk, but to cook. Check after 2 minutes until yolk is translucent or to your liking. Or leave the waffle maker open the entire time, but this will take longer.
- The egg white edges will be nicelyslightly crunchy on the browned side/bottom. Pull entire egg off with a spatula or heat-safe utensil. It should come off easily in one piece without leaving bits.
