Dutch baby pancake is an elevated pancake variety for breakfast. Especially for weekend brunch. And it goes beautifully well with a homemade blueberry jam sauce like this…
Dutch baby actually got its name in America, from Seattle. Even though it has German roots that makes this melting pot pancake fit right in.
The German word for German is dutch. And these are baby size or like silver dollar pancakes, and why it’s a baby Dutch and not just a Dutch.

Today the Dutch baby version is still popular in Germany, and the silver dollar ones are more popular in America. But I think it’s because of what we know. Because both are easy to make.
And this could be your next breakfast, weekend brunch, or Oktoberfest table option wherever you are in the world. As long as you have an oven, you can bake this.
In the oven, you can get a crispy finish, and not like the softer pancake on the stove. The oven helps infuse the little bit of butter that’s added, and your nose will know it while it’s baking.
You can make a Dutch baby with your favorite pan or any pan, like a rectangular one you use for bread loafs or dessert squares.
And you can even use a large cooking skillet, like that you would use for a frittata-style dish… that btw, could fit in and on your brunch buffet table too for offering sweet and savory options.
And finally, you can pair with a jammy sauce ontop or you can go with classic maple syrup. Actually this sauce was made with syrup to get the shiny and more liquid smooth consistency.
It’s like a gem color with a flowing river of delicious sweet fruitiness. 💎
Ready to give this a go? Oh, and you can still make this if you don’t have any butter. Or you can try an easier no-butter needed popover. With a few simple ingredients, you have many options.
