Calm Mind Best Way Ever

Calm mind is an aspiration often when you’re served up stressful situations in life… from work, family, or friendships that you balance in your life wheel.

A sign that this is not your practice life and life is not a dress rehearsal are good reminders to live a calm mind life as the secret to health and happiness.
Reminder: you get one life to live well 😊

The sooner you practice a calm mind and mindset, create boundaries, and step higher than your face-value situations…

…The better your life and work-life balance.

For the ONE life you get.

And during stressful testing times, the best way to calm your mind is to give the mind a way out.

This article is about how to calm your mind.

Because first off… you are not your mind, but the mind is in you.

Separating yourself as the choice and decision maker (that your mind is not) is your way out… and away from stress and toward your calm, peace, and happiness.

They are opposite directions where you get to choose which way you go. ⬅️➡️

You can take subtle, enjoyable baby steps toward the better direction choice using calm mind apps and daily music therapy 🎶 that will help turn the tide.

Those are the Ayurvedic ways I love. 🧡

But they subtly work in the background, so you won’t necessarily know they worked because they gradually turn the tide from the inside-out into the right direction (mind-body calm and peace).

Using your sense of sight, smell, hearing, and touch are all part of the prescription… and they are Ayurvedic comforting and add joy to your daily life. So why not?

…Gotta love that!

And when you have a loud interfering monkey mind 🙉 that swarms in worry or high ego-drama unrest in your mind, feeling good again is the goal.

To break out of those clouded mind moments or seasons, you would need to shout back at your untouchable and unseen ego that’s your then-invisible enemy in play that’s blocking truth, love, and peace.

At the root, your ego’s job is to protect you in survival situations… to get you to act and react to save your life if a tiger is chasing you.

But in modern daily life, it’s a detriment as ego goes overboard in its protective role!

Shutting off your ego (that shows up as pride) is the answer in most modern stressful situations.

It’s never your fault that your ego acts up due to situational triggers.

…But it is completely up to you how you want it to play out. And if healthy and happy is your goal, then the following tips will help support this…

Lowering ego is the restoring way back to your happiness and inner love-peace.

But not so easy is shutting off others… and actually impossible to do!

So you need to manage those situations.

Because misery is an option that adds zero daily benefits.

I know this well through many trials and situations…

I grew up and lived most my life in the DC metro area where egos fly high in close proximity to America’s politically charged circles where heads butt.

And that permeates in the local air and work environments close by outside of politics.

Pride in ego runs high and causes riffs anywhere in the world.

The problem is: everyone thinks it’s normal.

So it has been normalized. And even congratulated by people (through their egos) in the wins that are sometimes harmful.

This “normal” way trickles down into how we day-to-day operate and our relationships at work, and with family and friends.

But you can rise higher for a better calm mind AND life…

In your daily circles, when you have conflicts and tough situations that you may often grin and bear, do a healthy action that frees your mind from the ego bondage…

To escape from the trappings of you ego,  look for an out that will settle your mind.

This is especially useful and needed for your happiness if you are being treated unfairly or feeling displeasure from other people’s ways.

Take the mind-out of the situation by creating options.

And when you have options, your ego mind is no longer a prisoner.

It’s set free and so are you! 🎉

Example: your under-stress boss demands undesired actions from you creating a miserable work environment for you. While you may do the tasks begrudgingly to keep your job (that’s important to keep a roof over your head), in your free time, lunch break, or evenings, start proactively looking for other jobs.

This will subtly show your ego-mind that you have options (and are not trapped) and then you will feel better about your life and situation.

You are free from your ego’s captivity.

And you may even find the job of your dreams in the process!

Another example: your spouse or partner has been taking things out on you or bringing their negative emotional energy that has caused arguments between the two of you. Let the other person work out their unrest issues themselves. Start spending more time with your productive activities and friendships.

Because you can’t control or change other adult’s behaviors and actions.

That’s the bottomline.

Changing people is not the answer.

Provide the information they need, but it’s up to them to come up with their conclusions as it is for you to come up with yours and your peace of mind.

That’s the peacemaking way that will add years to your calm mind life…

And that protects your mind from the ugly ego (yours and theirs) rearing its ugly head in your situations… where anger, resentment, or taking out on other areas grow.

You’re likely served up these type of situations from most people in the world, and specifically those who aren’t as evolved… and letting their ego invisibly and cunningly play them.

In those times, the high ego person may even commonly accuse you of what they are actually going through if you’re in their regular or daily path.

BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE AREN’T AWARE OF THEIR EGO. AND IF THEY ARE, THEY ARE BEING PLAYED IN THEIR STRESSFUL SITUATIONS, UNTIL THEY STEP OUT.

As someone who considers herself evolved 🙋🏻‍♀️… for me, it still takes a while to step out of ego’s loud ways and see what’s going on.

And I completely remember the days when I had no clue I was being played.

But information is power!

Breaking out of old mindsets is a worthy fight for a calm mind and inner peace.

And the more practice, the easier it gets…

It sounds ridiculous (and to the ego that effort needs to be made), but my dear friend… the daily effort is the path to happiness.

Effort is the way out of stressful situations with people who walk around not knowing their ego (enemy) is playing them.

And all of us who are doing modern life have experienced people’s ego rearing their ugly heads.

You don’t have to turn far to find examples.

And if you’re in those situations now, don’t play the ego game served up.

Most importantly, don’t further enable bad behavior.

Train the ego person with your boundaries:

Love the person, but hate their behavior.

Be calm and kind, but firm.

Don’t let others manipulate you because they are persistent (e.g. kids can be the worst ego maniacs because they know no better).

It will only get worse if you say yes… to both ego adults or kids.

Stand your ground no matter how you feel in the moment… or the fear you feel creeping up in your that the ego is drumming up.

Rise higher to the opposite that’s love (that the Universe is full of).

Stand your ground with tough love that may feel harsh, but you and the ego-other will be grateful later.

Don’t let your ego block and blind you from seeing the harm that’s so common.

I can see ego-action from a mile away now (informed), and as you learn more you will be able to too! 😊

Ego is the danger for most people where they can’t see what’s going on in their mind and play-by-play actions in them or others’ egos.

Ego-blinding in you or others happen if you don’t consistently pay attention no matter how busy you are… 🙈

Use loss of sleep, appetite, gray hairs, sudden pimples, and body aches for no physical reason as more obvious signs something undesirable is happening to you!

A.K.A ego situations are near.

To catch all this, slow down, be aware and sensitized, and witness what’s happening…

Use your deep breathing present moments to slow down to see clearer and insight into what’s going on.

This is where time on your yoga mat or quiet chair help so you’re more sensitive of your symptoms that are more easy to spot.

Think of it as a diagnoses session where you get your calm mind peace and years back!

Because your body and loving, peaceful mind don’t lie (like the ego does in your busy moments).

And you can use this revealing body balance quiz to help you see what’s going on with your body and mind-body today from your body symptoms POV.

It’s like seeing the printed words on your car side mirror: objects are closer than they appear.

Or the nearby signs.

But in daily myopia and ego-blindness, we don’t see the signs.

When we become aware and get close-sight clarity, then you can see what’s happening in your stressful situations.

You can effectively calm your mind… AND use those stressful situations to make positive impact in your life.

AND OH, this is the best part of stress that makes it healthy good and worthwhile!…

If you’ve already spent or wasted hours or days on a stressful situation that robbed you of joy and peace, you might as well turn your victimhood into something useful in life (and help others going through similar situations).

…like I’m intently doing here in this article I wrote. 😊

I learned at one of my early-on jobs that you teach others how to treat you in life. I use that as a guiding mantra.

And you can too, to set healthy boundaries with others to get your calm mind, peace, happiness, and time back.

You’ve probably heard before that kids need… and LIKE boundaries.

They actually like ’em. And as grown up kids, adults do too!

So embrace that counterintuitive way in your daily situations.

That’s how you’ll get your calm life you aspire to.

And remember, tough love is a good thing for everyone. 🎉

Spring as a Metaphor for Growth

Spring season is a metaphor for personal growth.

spring in action in the mountains.
Hi, I’m Brandy… and I’m springing into action climbing mountains. 😎

And this is just a shorty post to help inspire your spring… especially since IT IS the first week of spring.

…So it’s time to spring into motion and get moving in the best possible way in your life! 🌱 Yes?

repotted
Repotting seeds to a larger seedling pot is a metaphor for growth.

The word “spring” means to rise, act suddenly, leap, and move.

But the spring season is what we like (no… LOVE) best.

And if your previous seasons (aka winters) have been long, it’s now time to leap into action, even if they’re baby steps in the right direction…

Maybe that’s spring cleaning for the soul, finding a new activity, building a new habit… or finding balance that I know does exist with boundaries you create in life.

Move purposefully like each day is your last so you can keep rising and thriving…

The birds and trees will keep going and growing around you whether you do or not. So get out of STUCK…

NOW IS YOUR TIME. ⌛️

And as I was once reminded at jobs I didn’t love (and was feeling stuck at)… you will not get this time back, my friend.

I use those miserable feelings as intentions to keep going and help me soul search.

...You can too.

And if you’re like me, who was in now what? mode for so long

Stop that.

Make each day and each hour count… so that you have no regrets tomorrow.

Draw a line in the sand.

And let the Universe act suddenly to meet you in favor in this higher place.

But nothing happens, if you don’t take a step out!

Dare to do something different.

And if you’re still transitioning… NEWSFLASH: transition is LIFE on earth.

Nothing will stay the same so that you can grow and get a better life than the one you had!

…And you can find a grounding activity like spending morning minutes with your plants to help you along.

You can keep it simple.

Like, indoor house plants at the sill grow with very little baby steps and effort.

They grow healthy when we (the caretakers) spend time tending to and appreciating them. 🌱

This is actually a form of apartment therapy for me. 😊

…And maybe for you too!… or you have a full blown outdoor garden scene.

…Or a prized tree, peony or rose bush that blooms every year in your yard that peeps, birds, and bees admire.

If so, I admire you. 🥰

…Especially if you grow herbs, tomatoes, and anything edible. 😋

What’s most amazing… is that no matter if you have a Martha Stewart worthy garden or an indoor plant in a temporary cup (like me), it can start so easily from a small seed… that’s the root and route in life.

Start small (baby steps) and that becomes your better season. And your better seasons become your optimal life.
“Remember the little seed in the plastic cup? The roots go down and the plant goes up, and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.”
-All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

Someone gifted me with this wise Robert Fulghum book for my high school graduation and I never forgot the words. That’s how powerful words are.

And I never forgot about plants… despite all my brown thumb decades and seasons where nothing would grow.

But now that’s all better different today… and 11 days later, this sunflower pot is thriving as nature intended. 🪴

sunflower seeds 11 days later
These guys were born on 3/21/25 just in time for spring. 🌱

I’m convinced it’s not the quality of seeds (luck), but the love (energy) you put into your plant tending activity.

…Plus dirt, sun, and water love from the Universe. 🌞

And actually… planting is a lot like baking where you prepare, wait, and then enjoy.

The all-purpose potting soil is the growing environment like the flour that makes a bread rise in the oven.

That’s when you’re actively waiting…

You’re doing life full of energy and waiting for the other parts to manifest.

…And that’s a good reminder I can leave you with today.

Keep coming back for healthy and happy tips. 🎉

…And inspiring weekly healthy good recipes. If you always wanted to learn to bake calm or would like to build confidence, these are all simple, non-intimidating, AND healthy-ish bake recipes where you’ll learn good habits in the process. If I can bake with an apartment oven in with a  small space kitchen, you have no excuse! 😊

Low-Sugar Matcha Cake

Matcha cake is a healthy cake. And this one is made with almond flour and healthy low-sugar delicious ingredients… that’s hard to match-ah. The recipe is below.

Matcha cake on a plate.

It’s a star that glows on a plate. 🌟

It could be the caffeine because matcha is a green tea.

The green comes from the chlorophyll pigment that’s anti-inflammatory. 🍵 (along with the EGCG catechin).

Green tea is not a sweet ingredient, so if you’re not a fan… you’ll love this matcha cake that turns out sweet with chocolate chips!

And it has just a small amount of the matcha tea that’s more for the color and healthy ingredient, like you would add to a drinking cup.

You could also think of it like adding a smidgeon of anti-inflammatory spice.

And matcha tea has another anti-inflammatory L-theanine element that’s shown to be good for calming, sleep, and mental focus.

So all these anti-inflammatory benefits help make green tea and matcha green tea the healthiest tea out there!

…Then when you also add a drop or two of Pandan gel, you get a plant-based cake that has a vanilla and somewhat earthy taste. 🌱

To complement those tastes, you can use almond milk with vanilla (or vanilla extract).

Then add other healthy ingredients like apple cider vinegar that will help the cake rise with the baking soda.

And of course, spices that’ll help dry out the batter because if you add enough liquid, you’ll get a moist batter… that’s a good idea.

Because this green matcha cake batter may not look like a cake batter at all or that it will transform into a cake in the oven, but it turns out like a packaged sponge cake with cream in the middle you enjoyed as a kid (or yesterday 😁)… ah, but remember this matcha cake is healthy!

And when it look as wet as a guacamole dip and barely falls off a spoon, it’ll be one great cake. 😊

In the magical oven process, it will dry out and rise like this star on a plate that it’s meant to be.

matcha cake star on a plate.

With cocoa and chocolate chips infused, if you love the idea of a chocolate matcha cake, then you’ll love a chocolate chip matcha cookie recipe too. You can split the dough/batter in half and make cookies in the easy prep steps.

Low-Sugar Matcha Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup milk, almond milk plus additional
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp powdered matcha tea
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger (optional)
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder and more for cake zhughing/dusting
  • 1-2 drops Pandan gel
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp neutral oil
  • 1 tbsp chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Mix ingredients by hand with a spoon. Almond flour is a gluten-free flour that will make a softer batter. Work in enough wet ingredients so the batter falls off the spoon together. The batter will be noticeably more grainy and less gloppy/smooth than a full gluten flour batter.
  • Bake at 325°F for at least 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Sometimes the bottom is still moist, so if you use a springform cake pan, you can take a small peek or simply add another 5-10 minutes to ensure it's dry at the bottom. When you bake at low temps and slow, you don't have to worry about burning your cake.
  • Let cool and dust with matcha and cocoa powder.
  • You can cut the cake in half with a serrated knife and add a frosting or filling. This one is filled with mascarpone mixed with almond extract to add a complementing taste. Then use a cookie cutter to cut out the cake in a star or any whimsical shape to your heart's fancy.

Low-Sugar Tartufo Dessert – No Egg

Tartufo can be your next dessert or even birthday cake you’ll be dreaming of. It’s kinda like an ice cream cake with an Italian vibe.

The recipe below is made with love, low sugar, and an ice cream fitting for tartufo individual cakes that you and party guests will love. 💗

Low-sugar Tartufo cake healthy dessert.

Mascarpone is the ice cream (that you can substitute) and the only iffy ingredient in this recipe from calling it a healthy dessert. But gives it an authentic Italian vibe… and name that can remind us of The Godfather movie.

And Tartufo is as dramatic..

You don’t hear people talking about this dessert as much in everyday life, but this spumoni resembling one inside is a delicious party dessert! 🎉

As the name sounds, tartufo has Italian roots. Not only is it an ice cream cake, but it’s also a truffle or edible fungus.

And with a dome shape, it’s fitting for both.

It also has spreads its wings into other continents as others (like me) can’t resist…

And anyone who gets like a giddy birthday party girl over ice cream cake. 🎈

Tartufo cake inside with a cherry center.

Facts about Tartufo:

First off, tartufo is usually made with gelato, but the cheese ice cream (recipe below 👇) I think is as delish and simple to make…

The ice cream is made with mascarpone cheese and yogurt and didn’t need an ice cream maker.

Mascarpone is a smooth and creamy cheese that when frozen has an ice cream texture. It’s kinda like cream cheese but more smooth and less sticky.

And if you’re looking for a dairy-free version, a tartufo with spumoni ice cream made from coconut oil is another delicious option.

Either way, the sweet and fresh pairing flavors add a tasty-dreamy reality. If you’re looking for spring color inspiration, this dessert could be the one! 🌱

And in the middle, what makes a tartufo extra special is biting into the surprise center that’s often a cherry, like in a cherry cordial… where the effect is different than a cherry on top like on a sundae that’s usually eaten first or put to the side. 🍒

If a cherry alone excites you (like it does me)… then you may want to stop reading and start making this! 💕

And if you aspire to healthy desserts and low-sugar 🙋🏻‍♀️, the healthy ingredients include Greek yogurt, pistachios, Pandan, cherries, coconut oil, and honey…

So you’re getting adult ingredient tastes and low-sugar healthy sensibilities that good for longevity and especially if you follow an anti-inflammatory or Mediterranean diet.

And it’s not just the healthy dessert aspects you’ll love…  it’s an easy (no bake low-sugar dessert recipe) to make that can easily be shared!

And the last bit that everyone will love is the hard chocolate shell that gives a dessert ice cream bar vibe that always put smiles on faces of all ages.

The best way to melt chocolate I have found works for this dessert too.

Best Gluten-Free Rainbow Cookie (No Bake!)

No-bake cookie recipes are not common, but I’ve got a delicious one you’ll love. And it’s gluten-free and dairy-free.

This dreamy one has rainbow healthy sweet flavors and a rainbow look… like an Italian flag colors. 🇮🇹

No bake cookie that looks like a cake with spumoni tri-colors

It’s a rainbow cookie.

To match, this one has the eat-from-the-rainbow 🌈 polyphenol healthy filled ingredients like matcha green tea to match-ah if healthy is your jam today!

And you can learn more 👇 about what else you can mix in that will make this one low-sugar, but sweet dessert… that’s also healthy gluten-free.

It’s made with delicious gluten-free almond flour.

You don’t need any other flours, but of course you have your choices available to fold in.

Adding regular or all-purpose (gluten) flour is not needed because there’s no baking in this recipe, so there will not be an oven rise…

But this cookie has the look of a cake that doesn’t fall flat!

The cookie-cake illusion is elevated by the interesting flavor layers like in spumoni ice cream… and they share in common no eggs.

You can make a pinkish or bright fire engine red color from   beet juice and graduated green colors from combined green Pandan gel, pistachios, and matcha green tea.

Pandan if you’ve never tried has a strong vanilla, leafy, and earthy tasting quality that matches the bright spring green color. 🍃

And if you’re not a match green tea fan but like the idea of adding matcha, it can definitely drown out the matcha flavor.

Plus adding a healthy light olive oil drizzle is heart healthy good. And each individual layer has healthy raw honey… so there’s plenty of healthy sweetness rolled in.

…You could even call this a Mediterranean diet dessert.

To glue all the layers together, raspberry jam is a great option and is used in this recipe, but you can use another jam like apricot that is traditional, or omit altogether.

And you can make a happy plate of these rainbow cookies that you can share and impress your friends with.

It’s fun to have them wonder if it’s a cookie or a cake… 🍥

AND they definitely won’t guess that you didn’t bake these, but you did make ’em!

The best part is that you can make this shareable dessert without extra prep waiting time.

Because there’s no need to refrigerate in between steps or layers.

And if you have a tendency to forget, you also don’t need to take out ingredients in advance to get to room temps. How sweet is that!?

I mean… it doesn’t get easier than that for impressive tasting and crowd pleasing desserts.
