And if your power goes out or there’s no milk on the grocery shelves days before or after a storm, you have a way to make your own oat milk.

You’re self-sufficient.

These are the simple homemade oat milk instructions:

Soak oats overnight in enough water to cover the oats, in a bowl or cup. I recommend using old-fashioned oats, but this will work with any type of oats.

Next day: Add 4x the amount of water.

You can use more or less water depending on how thick you want the oat milk. Even store bought oat milks are thin(ner), so expect a little bit of water-ish milk vs whole milks and even plant-based milks.

That’s the nature of any oat milk and homemade oat milk.

And if your power is on, it’s easy to get a better oat milk pour with your Magic Bullet or blender. Idea: This is such a great milk alternative for smoothies that you do all-in-one blender (or easy blend all together without straining the oats).

You can also stain and add back the oats if you like. So many options!

Simply pulse the blender with the soggy overnights oats and water. And you’ll see the milk. Then take a strainer (or something like a cheese cloth) and drain the oats. You can use reuse the oats for your smoothie or add to your sweet breakfast bowl.

Now you have ready-to-go oat milk!

You can also use a mortar and pestle (by hand method) to make the soggy oats smaller.

If the power is out or you’re not using any tools, then simply pour the water over the soggy overnight oats.

Do this a few times. After you run the water through the 2nd or 3 time, you’ll see the light oat milk better.

It won’t be as good as with a blended overnight oat, but it should come close. So no worries!

Never again do you have to run to the store for drinking milk, or dread having to deliver the milk before or after a storm! 🥛 Homemade oat milk is good for those dairy-free drinkers and anyone who can eat oats.

Or an oat milk bowl for your domesticated dog or cat for a treat. 🐾

And with making homemade milk, you’ve added one more domesticated skill under your belt. That’s you can add to your cereal or smoothies.

And if you like, you may like to elevate with a nut or pecan milk latte (with your battery operated frother tool). Or cold brew homemade coffee from scratch (that’s actually my daily coffee ☕️) that you can make anytime or when the power goes out. 🔌
