Old Bay scallops with quinoa could be the greatest seafood dish… with bay scallops. That’s a lot of bay! YAY!
I grew up going to Ocean City, Maryland 🏖️ as the closest beach that had lots to do along the Atlantic Ocean and a famous bayside. 🌊
Old Bay doused crabs and scallops were everywhere near the boardwalk and amusement park. That has the equivalent fun foods of that at a State Fair. 🎡
And one summer I worked at one of the Phillip’s Seafood restaurants.
It was near the bay that’s one one side of Ocean City and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.
If you grew up on the east coast, you get it! 🦀🌽
And you can make your own seafood boil tastes… that are healthy and happy1
Scallops brown best with a little butter. So for this recipe that’s one time I would say use a pat of butter instead of olive oil.
And then add to a bed of quinoa and corn… so you have a tasty bowl. This is the best seafood bowl when you’re feeling nostalgic… or wanderlust.
In transition seasons, bowl like this with Old Bay seasoning can take you out of reality and bring you back down memory lane… like a boardwalk 🎡 or good times you had that carry you through.
Corn is always brightening and can be the replacement to lemon.
A bowl like this is easy to make and affordable if you’re on a budget. Small scallops are comparable to prices of shrimp and fish. So look for the white pearly seafood that’s often tucked in between in the seafood cases.
You can pair shrimp easily and fast with a cocktail sauce with NO ketchup. Most recipes contain ketchup that usually has corn syrup that’s not so healthy. Or you may prefer a more coastal vinegar sauce.
Whatever you decide, you can make your own bowl if you’re feeling beach end-of-summer nostalgic like us Mid Atlantic east coasters. And if you like this idea, you may love a mussels and quinoa dish.
