Three Sisters is a popular side dish in the Americas with beans, squash, and corn. The crops are often grown together on a farm. So why not on a plate? 

It’s a tradition that many healthy around the globe are eating. Some with lime treated tortilla.

All the ingredients are affordable to the grocery wallet if that’s where you shop.

And a Three Sisters side add (to a protein dish like white fish) is a smart choice. It’s also easy to put together for a white fish taco meal.

It’s a complete diet. With all the ingredients, you get protein, carb, and fiber in one meal…

Butternut squash is loaded with Vitamin A and C and fiber. You can also use spaghetti squash or zucchini squash.

For corn, common yellow corn is a bit more healthy than white corn. You can tell by the sunny color (eat-from-the-rainbow 🌈). But either corn will be good for added vitamins and minerals.

And for beans… those are staple supplements loaded with fiber and protein. Black and kidney beans (again think, deeper color choices) are the healthiest beans but you can’t go wrong with beans. 🫘

Beans have a long shelf life. And with cans, you don’t have to wait for a special bean season. Beans are abundant year-round.

And they add color drama to a meal. So they’re good cans to keep in your kitchen.

Oh… and then when you add your cooked white fish to the Three Sisters dish… that adds even more color contrast and complementary protein, B vitamins, and minerals!

Summed up, a delicious white fish taco with Three Sisters is one longevity meal that’s hard to pass up!

You can even dress it up on a food table whether it’s served help-yourself style or as a family style passed meal.

To zhugh: you can use more healthy ingredients and color adds: like fresh cilantro or basil. Or parsley for more universal tastes.

You even add chopped sweet red pimento or bell peppers. And then add a drizzle of olive oil popular in a Mediterranean diet. 😋

Butternut Squash White Fish Taco Three Sisters Dish

Pairing a 3 Sisters dish with fish tacos is a healthy dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 butternut squash, whole
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 can yellow corn
  • white fish (whiting, cod, tilapia, etc.)
  • fresh basil
  • olive oil drizzle
  • corn tortilla

Instructions

  • Cook your butternut squash until soft, then cut in half. It's much easier (and safer) than cutting when raw and hard!
  • Cook until you can scoop out the squash. This will vary in times.
  • Add the corn and beans drained from cans.
  • Cook fish and make salsa verde (basil and olive oil) or pesto (basil, olive oil, pine nuts).
  • Bake tortilla at 200°F/100°C for about an hour or serve tortillas soft.
