Easy Pecan Latte + How to Make Pecan Milk

Pecan latte is one that’s up the chic alley as pistachio lattes. You can use store-bought milks to make an easy coffee beverage or a smoothie that tastes like a German Chocolate Cake. But is healthy and easy to fall for!

For a latte, blending pecan milk with coconut milk will add to those pecan dessert tastes and give a more creamy experience with more flavor. But you can also sub or add with cashew or almond milk that are easy to find. 🛒

…And make your own easy homemade pecan milk.

Which btw, pecan milk is a great Magic Bullet recipe

And this is how to make pecan milk in 3 easy steps:

Step 1: Soak your pecans overnight.

Step 2: Drain the pecans, add fresh water, blend, and add to your cloth strainer. Oh, and remember to save your pecans because you will use those in the pecan latte smoothie recipe (below).🧋

Tip: if you can’t find cheese cloths or muslin that are more fancy kitchen supplies (that can be tricky to find in a pinch), you can use mesh bags (like the kind you’d use for delicate laundry) and store a couple in your kitchen supplies. Since those mesh bags have bigger holes, you can double up so the pecan bits don’t fall through.

And now you’re ready for the final step…

Step 3: Over a bowl or glass, pour the fresh water-pecans chopped blend into the (mesh) cloth strainer. And squeeze tightly so all that good wholesome homemade pecan milk flows through.

Unlike cow’s milk, you’re milking a bag for milk. 🥛

So easy and you may amaze yourself it works. It actually has a milk white color (compared to the soaked pecan water in step 1 that’s beige-ish color).

The first pour you can call the first press. 😊

That’s going to be the thicker milk (that can be used for foam and/or part of your pecan latte drink).

I took a photo to show you the difference in the milk thickness from the first and second press if you decide to make more pecan milk.

You can see the difference in the thicker (1/4 cup pecan milk) and then the more watered down pecan milk in the additional 1/3 cup made from 4 whole pecans:

pecan milk first pour and second pour comparison.
Pecan milk: 4 pecans make 1/4 cup thick milk and addt’l 1/3 cup thin milk

Then to make the pecan milk foam (or coconut milk foam that goes well in coffee or the German Chocolate Cake latte smoothie 🧋).

You can make foam effectively on your home stove.

Add your fresh milk (fresh-off-the-press) to a stove pot and place over your stove burner on medium-high heat. I find that pecan milk works better when blended with an even thicker milk or alternative milk like a plain unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk.

With your milk, when you get small boils (never understood why they would call those fish eyes… eww! 🤪), then you can turn your stove off or pull the pot off the stove. You don’t want to burn your fresh milk.

Turn your frother tool on into your pot of warmed milk. You’ll see foam develop. I find if you move the tool up and down a little you get more even froth.

Tools: You can purchase a basic hand-held frother tool for a few dollars (or pennies per drink for all the drinks you will make!). They’re like magic 🪄

…Along with a magic bullet blender (or similar) that makes life easy for Magic Bullet drinks, dips, and smoothie recipes.

These are two easy tools that give you a bougie drink without much effort!

pecan latte foam with mixed milks.

Tip: Don’t worry so much about the foam. For a latte drink it’s not as important as a feature like the foam on a cappuccino drink. Latte is more about the milk.

But if the foam is important to you, then store bought full-on coconut milk can be a better foaming source and more stable. I find it better than the “barista” labelled milks, but that depends on you and your tools.

However you make your foam, it will go down tasty! 😋

You can pour the remaining milk liquid parts into your dessert smoothie or coffee pecan latte drink.

Remember to reserve a little spoonful of foam until the very end like a barista does.

And now you’ve made an at-home barista drink, saving time and without having to walk out the door. Plus you save money (…remember the latte factor?). You’re the barista or drink maker.

…How cool, yes?

And from there with drink in hand, you can have a party! 🧋🧉

And of course a beverage like this will pair decadently with a sweet-ish chocolate-y dessert (…maybe for a Swedish Fika break).

When I worked in catering management, we often served decadent-oozing chocolate soufflé desserts at parties that were always a hit at special occasions and wedding dinners.

So I was inspired and made my gluten-free version of the individual chocolate cakes that are easy to make healthy and bake at home.

A dessert like this would go well with a coffee latte. Especially with flavored coffees with vanilla, coconut, or chocolate bits!

A latte can be served hot or cold (depending on the season and your Ayurvedic season happening in you).

Coffee is a healthy plant-based drink that you can make less acidic with an easy at-home cold brew coffee.

And if a pecan latte in coffee or smoothie form isn’t your thing for today, how about a tea party (for one, plus one, or more)? These days everyone loves teas. They’re healthy and comfortable.

You can make a light dessert tea with a pecan latte. This works well brewing a a light tea, like a holiday tea you can find in autumn weather that a sugar cookie would go great with.

The healthy and tasty pairing possibilities are endless. 🎉

Ready to make your easy pecan latte drink?

…Or try a decadent tasting (but healthy) German Chocolate Cake smoothie.

Both are sustainable plant-based healthy drinks that drink up all traces that it was there. You can use all the blended solid and liquid pecan parts. And poof… just like that, it’s magically gone! 😋

Tropical Smoothie Blend – With Dragon and Passion Fruit

Tropical smoothie is one you can make at home with passion and tropical fruits like dragon fruit we now have access to in our Western grocery stores.

Tropical smoothie blend with dragon fruit, passion fruit, and pineapple

Like I’ve seen beautiful dragon fruit that’s a relatively new find in the Western hemisphere. The fruit’s outside vibrant pink and green color gives off the tropical (orchid?) look.  It’s also called Pitaya that means “scaly fruit” and not scary fruit as it’s very pretty like a tight rose.

dragon fruit

But, surprise (!) it’s not what it looks like inside…

Blend in a smoothie, it does do as the dragon fruit taste is so subtle (almost tasteless) and smooth in a smoothie with dragon fruit, passion fruit, and pineapple. 🍍

But you don’t taste the dragon fruit.

And like Houdini magic, you don’t even see it either… the dragon fruit disappears as you saw that it’s distinctly whitish with black seeds.

dragon fruit, passion fruit, and pineapple in a tropical smoothie.
Dragon fruit, passion fruit, and pineapple tropical smoothie blend. 🍍🪷

…But invisible dragon fruit is quickly becoming a common tropical fruit. And makes a good choice to add to our tropical smoothie drinks 🌅 since we can find the fruit in our stores.

And you know what that means: fruit abundance equals price drop.

This hand-picked tropical fruit was under $3 and I remember its fruit siblings as over $5 just a few short months ago. It even has its own 3040 PLU sticker and number, making it a common produce. 💕

So you can add to your anti-inflammatory morning routine, breakfast parfait, or break-fait to take a break.

A dragon fruit smoothie can easily be made into a parfait with layers.

But first you have to crack into the stunning looking soft magenta and pineapple green streak fruit exterior.

…When you cut inside, you see the magenta flaming color even brighter than the outside.

Inside has a lot of pink color drama going on. 💄Looks like yummy fine silks. And feels slippery like an orchid’s petals.

When you finally get deep down into the fruit center, you’ll see the stark color and pattern contrast.

It’s like a dice color pattern design. Nature is so clever.

…And you can cut them into game playing dice shapes for your edible creations! How fun is that. 🎲

Whether you slip them into your dragon fruit tropical smoothie or assemble in a parfait, it’s a fun treat.

And a healthy one full of fiber (beating strawberries 🍓) that’s good for losing weight goals. And full of C and B vitamins.

…And when paired with passion fruit, it’s off the fruit charts!

In addition to a tropical smoothie, you can also build a tropical parfait.

How to Play the Parfait Game (or Build a Parfait)

This is a game where you end up eating what you make with your dragon fruit dice. 🎲🎲

It’s a lot more rewarding than playing a game of Parcheesi that can take hours. It takes prep minutes and you can play with one or more players. 😊

So let’s begin…

Rule of thumb for parfait (that I like to use): add one layer of Greek yogurt at the bottom.

That becomes your base.

Bottom layer: And then add two star ingredients (or hero flavor ingredients as Paul Hollywood would say on the Great British Bake Off if he were here critiquing).

…Be bold, choose visually contrasting food ingredients in color and/or texture. You can even choose kiwi or a star fruit which was popular during my catering days. That can also go in your tropical smoothie.

Dragon fruit is an interesting choice.

I chose blueberries for the dark moody blue contrast, and you can sub with any bright berries for a pop! 🫐

Making micro choices like this is fun and relaxing… it’s playing creative dress up with your food. Then it’s not like work.

Moving on, next add another layer of the primer or Greek yogurt white base.

Middle layer: And then add another layer of one of the star ingredients already used, and introduce another fruit or new ingredient.

In this case, banana slices. 🍌

I could keep building layers, but by this point I’m running out of space in the glass. If I had a trifle bowl to work with, I’d add another layer.

Top layer: Then for the very top layer I call the zhugh layer, add your textures like nuts and seeds. I like walnuts and flax seeds for this one.

Chia seeds would be dramatic too.

It’s your dreamy parfait, so you can dream up your parfait desires into reality!

The other tip I have is to make two for yourself. So if you’re making for a couple, then make 4. Easy math…

Or roll the dragon fruit dice, and see what fun number you get. It will be at least uno “1” for each dice. 😊

The reason I make one extra is because then you can enjoy again. The next day. And the same for a tropical smoothie.

This is a good smoothie for breaking a fast…

It has protein (yogurt or milk for a smoothie), carb (fruit), and fat (nuts and seeds) all in one.

  • 1 Dragon fruit, diced (they actually look like dice!)
  • 1 Pineapple (fresh or canned)
  • Passion fruit, diced
  • maple syrup (optional)
  • milk of choice (coconut milk suggested)

Instructions

  • Blend up your tropical fruits and add about a 1/4 cup milk to 1 cup milk. Add more milk as desired for a thin or thick smoothie. To add more or less sweetness, add or reduce pineapple and/or maple syrup.

Hangover Smoothie Ingredients You’ll Love

Hangover smoothie is a good way to describe a healthy soothing beverage-is-medicine solution when you’re feeling an over hang.

…Most people even these days aren’t aware that a hangover comes from dehydration.

Late night alcoholic drinks is often blamed as the cause. Because alcoholic beverages are diuretics.

And around town, you need to say no more the next morning when you tell others you were out or up late. They get why you’re sluggish.

A hangover, like moods, is best described as symptoms where you don’t feel your best.

And they often start your day, the most important part of your day…

At least for productivity.

And hangovers don’t just come from late nights (with or without alcohol).

Losing an hour in daylight savings can give you that lesser feeling, and headaches from mental hangovers where a situation hangs over you head.

…I remember I felt a hangover when I lived off the highs and lows of life… feeling happy from social events and a fun day shopping at the mall… but then gradually the let down feeling of now what? creeping in… and wanting to keep that high feeling up.

The highs and lows are the worst, and more maturely eventually exercising my contentment muscle cured that… and allowed me to exercise greater self-control that’s an underrated personal development skill that helps throughout life.

But that high-low hangover feeling was a subtle feeling compared to a hangover from alcohol and dehydration….

Where drinking more water helps restore the immediate balance. Remember, our bodies are about 60% water.

Through drinking water and osmosis, we can hydrate our body cells to get us back to our optimal feeling selves in those situations.

👉 Amount of water daily rule of thumb you can use: divide your weight in half and then divide by 6 to know how many 6 oz. glasses to ideally drink per day.

For 130 lbs, that’s about eight – 8 oz regular glasses.

So point #1 is to feel good: and make sure you’re getting enough water.

Going to the toilet a zillion times a day is better where you’re preventing health issues and hangover effects you could have.

And if your urine is a dark yellow anytime, then you know drinking more water is and a tall glass is in order.

Also, adding in more electrolytes with calcium, potassium, and sodium. Some drinks like coconut water or V8 have this without the added sugars and are good for hangovers.

…And if you’re still feeling a hangover effect, then a hangover smoothie can be just what you need for your healing! 🧉

It can help you get on your feet when you feel malaise and want to stay in bed in the morning with throbbing pains and aches.

Headaches are the most common hangover effect.

There are many food ingredients too that can help you feel better faster. And a smoothie is a quick one to make.

Smoothies are also light when you don’t feel like eating.

Below is a great hangover smoothie recipe with berry and citrus to help you especially on those days!

The citrus alone will bring some happy flowing  and brightening vibes. 🌼

…AND these common smoothie ingredients are not just good for hangovers.

They’re also good for an anti-inflammatory lifestyle, and incorporating foods that don’t cause inflammation (that is a big known cause for common chronic diseases like heart, diabetes, and certain cancers).

Living inflammation-FREE is a good mission and what I’m talkin’ about 👯

In 2020, I experienced eczema for the first time and since then I’ve learned to eat enjoyably with a lot less sugar and eczema-inflammation free.

Honey, fruits, and monk fruit sugar sources are what I use mostly in baked goods.

…Because Brandy is my name that also means sweet… and this girl is not giving up the sweet taste!

In the Western world, we’ve gotten used to the sickenly sweet pastries we see every time we venture out.

And the more we eat, the more we want since sugar is an addictive substance.

…So controlling the sugar intake is a better way, just like feeling contentment is better than high-low happiness based on current situations in life.

…And so a smoothie is a great way to develop better healthy eating and sweet habits!

You end up with more fruits with vitamins and antioxidants, than needing to add any other types of sugar sources (with zero nutritional value).

it’s a great daily replacement.

Plus, adding healthy, fresh plant-based fruit and veggie ingredients reminds you of an experience of what you get when you order a healthy smoothie from a smoothie shop.

That’s often a look-forward-to treat that becomes an event you mention to others. There’s some sort of cool feeling about it like going to a smoothie shop after yoga class. And we know feeling cool means feeling good. 👍

Btw, I’ve always had good luck with smoothie shops… once I won a smoothie shop gift card and I’d never won anything before. It felt like winning a small lottery.

I also found the shops make great meetup places in the afternoon past coffee o’clock when you wanna sip and sit outside.

I mean, you gotta celebrate where you have luck 🎉,  where you meet nice  people 😊, good things happen…oh, AND you hydrate your thirst 💦 as part of your healthy fill!

And these days, you can order some of the healthiest anti-inflammatory ingredient smoothies on the planet that come in colors that look like they’re outta this world. 🌎

Something like this mermaid blue instead of a blue sugary slushy…

You can also easily source your own ingredients and make wellness and hangover smoothies at home.

And if that’s calling you 📣, I have a challenge I think you will love that highlights the healthy, budget-friendly special ingredients that you see or walk past whenever you’re in a grocery store.

…It’s a 7-Day healthy smoothie recipe challenge.

👉 And if you signup now you’ll get the additional FREE bonus baking recipe challenge for anti-inflammatory living (that are some of my fave desserts!).

If you’re like me (a foodie! 🙋🏻‍♀️) who likes sweets without giving up tastes, these 12 healthy bake recipes may do the trick! 💕

…They’re simple to prepare and bake with healthy-inspired ingredients that will help you feel good especially on all-day restore comfort, PJ days!

My healthy food mission is about delicious and staying the same comfortable weight year-round (and lifelong).

…So there’s no loss, and everything to gain.

…That’s something good to add to bakes and smoothie tastes.

And I like to blend the two with smoothie dessert tastes that are drinkable without any of the bad stuff. 🍥

Natural ingredients are good for hangover feelings.

Plus, a healthy hangover smoothie is a great way to balance your body, and add vitamins and nutrients you could otherwise be missing.

Like consider these killer hangover smoothie ingredients:

Berries – Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries all have high anthocyanin antioxidants and polyphenols that give a berry fruity-forward taste.

As fruits go, berries are not as high in natural sugar so adding them to a healthy hangover smoothie will help bring out other flavors.

Look for organic berries because regular berries are highly sprayed with pesticides. You may have better luck in the frozen aisles when they’re not in season. 😉

Citrus – Grapefruits, oranges, lemons, and limes are all super high in Vitamin C antioxidants.

Vitamin C is one potent vitamin that I’ve never heard anything bad about… and like you, I’ve lived through some decades of food debates and nutrient controversies.

And Vitamin C is one of the few vitamins that you won’t overdo as your body will naturally flush out the water soluble source.

Citrus as juicy vitamin fruits make great hydration foods for a detox hangover smoothie.

Oh, did someone say detox?

Ginger always seems to come to this mind.

Ginger – is great if you have a stomach ache. Ginger ale may be something that you drank to calm your gut growing up.

But even better is eating raw ginger straight up. Or adding small chunks to your smoothie so they’re not as spicy-gingery.

And along those lines, adding mild mint calms upset stomachs and bloating. Having mint leaves close by is a good idea.

Like an herb plant that’s below to the LEFT (and on the right is a no care-needed avocado seed plant good for mental hangovers 🌱)

Peppermint is a specific herb and mint ingredient that’s menthol powerful. Mint tea is good to have in your food-as-medicine cabinet.

…And is actually super helpful right away for many aches, from headaches to stomach aches (that remember link in the mind-body and direct mind-gut connection).

And these healthy ingredients can all go in one smoothie… ahhh, but wait there’s more!

These are other smoothie pairing enhancers great for a hangover smoothie.

Tropical fruits – besides vitamins, pineapple and mangoes are great adds to cure a hangover because they have a high natural fruit sugar content (so they help to replenish glucose levels and detox). They’re super sweet for a reason. 🥭🍍

Eaten in moderation, they are healthy fruits from nature’s labels.

Bananas are also great staple adds in smoothies because they add back what’s missing. It’s a good source of potassium that helps to add back body electrolytes.

They are also a great simple filler food that’s on the BRAT diet when you don’t feel like eating (aka. hangover or sick feeling).

A banana is great for smoothie texture and taste. 🍌

You can peel and freeze ripe bananas and have them ready-to-go. They won’t be yellow pretty, but they will do the trick!

And then when you add your smoothie liquid, you get the much needed hydration for your hangover feeling.

Milk (or plant-based milks) can be the bulk of the liquid added where you get even more electrolytes than just water in a smoothie.

Now that you have the ingredients and then some that you can mix up and use in a daily uplifting smoothie…

Green Smoothie – Mango Tropical Blend

Green smoothie drinks is something healthy good. We can turn into a tropical smoothie in the hot months. 🥭 And make it look like a turning unripe to ripe mango.

Green smoothie with mango tropical vibes.

A green smoothie is one of the easiest drinkable salad meals you can make. You need no cooking skills.

A little imperfect chopping and peeling is about all you need.

Oh, and a little clean up skills never hurts.

And with restaurant prices going up, up, and up, you can save money making your own fresh green smoothies at home.

The cost of smoothie ingredients is a fraction of the cost. You save money when you’re the smoothie maker.

There is no waiting time.

So let’s begin with… these tropical smoothie treats that are made with an easy blender that’s all you need.

I use a Magic Bullet that’s a small, easy blender. It looks like a capsule. You add your chopped ingredients and pulse.

Then you have a delicious and nutritious smoothie with no added sugar. You can let your imagination go wild.

With a Magic Bullet, it’s important to maintain a good seal. The machine comes with a rubber seal ring, but be sure when you’re cleaning that you don’t accidentally throw it out.

And when you replace, get a good, same size one… otherwise you’ll get leakage.

These are a few tropical smoothie drinks that’ll remind you of being poolside or in the tropics somewhere with blue waters:

Pina Colada Avocado – cream of coconut, pineapple. I find this drink is naturally super sweet, so I ground with a balancing avocado and greener banana. You can also add a layer of greens.

Green Mango Smoothie – a mango smoothie stands on its own with benefits. And like a pina colada, it can be sweet so balancing with a kale or spinach layer will tame down the drink.

Adding mango is fruit sweetness so you don’t have to add other fruit sweeteners. It helps to tame the bitter green tastes.

And to give a kick and another dimension is adding cinnamon and ginger. Both spices are anti-inflammatory and contain polyphenols. Ginger is especially good for digestion and cinnamon is great for calming anxiety.

Those small ingredient tweaks take this smoothie from meh hold your nose to drink to to a delicious tall order drink you can enjoyable sip on.
